Four Things that Happened since my last post

Life is interesting ,doesnt it, especially when u look back and see the differnece it had made in you, over a period of time .The month of december has been an evenful one in my life .I think a lot had happened'.
Four things are really worth mentioning

1)The semester exams ,though the questions were not really tough ,were really a difficult one to crack than i had imagined.Especialy after getting placed and the long days that were in between each exams,I was not able get the motivation going. Finally, with the grace of God and putting in some considerable amount of work,I have wriiten all the exams to my satisfaction and results should be positive ,hopefully .

2)A great man named Abraham george, whom I have mentioned in my first blog and who is almost my inspiration to write a blog, whom I got acquainted through a google search and from whom I got so many new real informations about India through his blog .The special thing is that ,I found the famous Thomas friedman praising or really making him an idol ,in his world famous book on Globalisation ,'The World is Flat'.
It is a great feeling to read something really big and finding in it a about a person whom u already know...

3)Minutes after the last exam ,We decided to start to Ooty
(80 Km from Coimbatore) through bikes and we started exacty two hours after the exams and it was really the best trip I ever has in my life.Standing in Dotapetta ,the highest point in South India and being in a state where you could see only the distance having radius of only 2 meters around you... absolutely awesome experiences.

4)Realised how big and important the Blogs are ,and deciding it is not some place to just fil in some crap,I have decided to put in something really useful and clear so that my blog doesnot become that 'yet another blog' type.Hopefully ,with some hardwork and patience,I think I can make it.
Time and Hope should have the answers...

Back to Blogging ..Finally

It is nearly a month and four days from the day since I typed in my last post.I was in the middle of my study holidays then and decided not to blog till the exams are over since I thought i was wasting much time in the internet.I was desperate to blog at certain times like when
1)Martina Hingis quit tennis
2)Sampras Vs Federer matches (Effect of "Men who made me"...)
3)The thiings related to 'The World is Flat'.
Somehow I controlled myself and had to back my decision ,Alas who else would respect my decisions if I dont!

So ,this first six months into the world of Blogosphere has been a learning curve for me and has given me many things(new friends, new informations, to say a few).I had been a novice and I have realised that the world of Blogging is really a wonderful thing that has happened to the Internet making it a 'read and write' one.
What next?
*I deduced that some of my posts were not upto the standards and I have to improve on it.

* I have decided to concentrate more on my perspectives of all the recent happenings on the planet sensibily and contribute my best to the internet.

They are Our Real Heros ,,not our cricketers and Actors

The article here was the one in 'The Hindu ' ,Open page and I certainly beleive that every Indian has to read this one at this point of our bllooming economy.
Not enough to draw youth into armed forces

To say we honour our soldiers and to practise it are two different things

Sonika Uppal

A second generation army wife married to a fourth generation army officer, it is not just a way of life for me, it is my entire life....and that is by no means an understatement. I grew up in this cocooned world, never doubting even once that there was something lacking in it, and there wasn’t!

It was a wonderful way of life, comfortable and secure, drifty, voyaging, invigorating and always peppy. A certain glamour and romance attached to the austere sober side.

Nowadays, I sometimes sit and wonder where that old way of life has gone. Somewhere it got lost or probably left behind in this new world where mind-boggling salaries and unheard of amounts are paid to young boys and girls, who have yet to learn the value and worth of hard earned money.

The old age saying of “simple living and high thinking” has literally flown out of the window. Everybody seems to nurse a wholesome passion for all the “good” things in life ...a monthly six figure salary, a luxurious apartment, latest cars and gizmos and of course vacations abroad. No altruistic desires to change the world, just pursuing one’s own dreams. Frankly, I don’t see anything wrong with it; it is a new changed world with new changed needs. Money is no longer a dirty word.
All pains and no gains?

So why should an army officer feel differently? Or is it that simply by virtue of being in this profession, his dreams should be limited to sacrificing his whole life for the country, all pains and no gains? No wonder our country has a shortage of 13,000 officers at present, a shame considering our burgeoning population. We need to wake up to reality.

To expect a young man to join this profession and stick to it, you have to make it attractive and worthwhile. We all know there is no dearth of talent and brains in our country. But the top lot never opt for the defence services and even if they do, it turns out to be a very dissatisfying vocation for them. It might seem that I am flogging a dead horse here, but the truth is out there for all to see.

Many army officers I know, some of them close friends, have either put up their papers or are in the process of doing so. And let me tell you, among them are mostly the toppers of their respective courses, highly intelligent, self-motivated, and hardworking individuals. And why not? In spite of putting in their best, working undefined ungodly hours, in the worst of living conditions, separated from their families for half the year if not more, no guarantee of promotions and putting their life at risk, these are still among the low paid class A gazetted officers in this country.

Their frustration is inevitable and understandable. To say we honour our soldiers and to practise it are two different things. When our cricketers run around the stadium with our country’s flag after winning a single match, they are treated like god and are gifted crores from the taxpayers’ kitty, and yet what most of us do not know is that the amount paid to a soldier for being awarded a Sena Medal for gallantry is Rs. 250 a month, with lower awards getting no monetary compensation.

A commercial pilot gets paid a few lakhs a month for transporting people safely, and a soldier posted at Siachen gets a few thousands for keeping the tricolour safe. Why would anyone want to do this? The so called “josh,” the thrill of serving your country, does not last long when these frustrations set in and when you know that you have it in you to be the best, and if out there with the corporates, you could be earning your present salary manifold.

We as a nation need to dwell on these issues in detail, to refocus on the criticalities ailing the armed forces, and make becoming an officer an attractive ideal to the youth of today, a youth faced with alternative attractive options as well. For starters, it would serve well to let a good remuneration package and the armed forces be synonymous.

What do u call this?

I was there in the busstand in tirunelveli, waiting for my bus to start to coimbatore. It was around 10.00 pm,it was the scene that would move evryone who sees it to stop for a moment or two and make them pay attension.
A man was packing or i should write closing his so called shop, that he owns in the open area in the platform of the busstand. He was alone,he had a whole lot of materials ranging from biscuit packets to cosmetics. The shop was nothing but a stand,a big piece of synthetic cloth and some ropes. He was putting all the materials in the stand, covering it with his cloth and tieing it neatly as if he was tieing a rollsroyce in a lorry, all alone. It took him nearly one and half hour to complete 75% of his work(my bus came then). His rope fell every now and then on to the ground, none tried to help him.The thing that was so special about the man was he did not have a leg.

Same Place,Same Time:A well built man coming in a taxi directly from his hotel taking with him his waiter from the hotel with his two suitcases that even my grandmother would carry .He asks the waiter to take them to his bus and gives him a fifty rupee note, which i think is what our shopkeeper earn for a day .....

The book called 'Doors'

A novel called "Doors".Can U predict what the novel would be about. It's an account of a burglar's life over a period of time.It records incidents that affects the softer side of the burglar when he comes in contact with a square(a normal lady). He decides to quit burglary and start living with his girl Jessica but only after completing one of the biggest burglaries of his life. But once he compltes it successfully, his mind takes a drastic 'U' turn and he tries ignoring the poor girl.

The story seems simple, but the syle in which the authour handles the plot is really interesting. The minute details covered regarding all burglaries and the way Alex uses an ordinary telephone to get all the information he needs for his looting, is simply amazing. The language, the people, the accent makes the reader feel himself inthe middle of burglars....

The part played by the whores and the characterization of Alex is what the book is all aboout. The character almost becomes an epitome of a cold hearted thief when thinks frustrated by Jessica, whom he loved and deciding to ignore her inthe climax. This novel is not action packed but it takes into a diferent world that u cant neglect wherever u go...

Good book, never miss it if u come to see it...

I was there when it happened

I heard Harsha Bhogle say."We were there when it happened."I could feel the profound intensity of those words right through my heart. What a fitting finale to the game's youngest child.
Watching cricket right from the age of eight,I have sat for hours infront of that 'idiot box',hoping against hopes for an Indian Victory in a major tournament. After nearly a decade and a half of waiting, finally, the Indian Cricket teamhas given me something that I can say
"I am proud of being a cricket fan and experience that exclusive rush in my heart on that glorious minute of Indian victory."

I was there when it happened,I was there witnessing how the victory was scripted, manufactured in the dressing room right fron the day Dhoni was made the captain.

Nearly a minute after Sreesanth held to that catch of his lifetime,I could not stop those wonderful liquid drops coming out of my eyes, for the very first time of my life,I wept seeing a sports incident(in real life).

For those of you who are not so passionate about Cricket,Please understand that there is something in here that you couldnot get anywhere else...

Are we Devoloping?

"WE were sitting in the tent, they tore it down.We kept sitting",the old old Freedon Fighter told us."They threw water on the groung and at us.They tried making the ground wet and difficult to sit on.We remained seated. Then when I went to drink aome water and bent down near the tap, they smashed me on the head fracturing my skull.I had to be rushed to hospital."
Baji Mohammed is one of India'a last living freedom fighters -just one of four or five nationally recogonised ones.He is not talking about british brutality in 1942.

He is describing the vivious attack on him during the demolition of Babri Masjid in 1992.
This is what the reality is..
We say that we are devoloping and cheat ourselves and give ourselves into externl forces. We dont want to beleive that we are behind and we dont accept the fact that there are a lot of mistakes on our side....

The greatest Book I have ever read

In my Tewnty one years of life, probably 10 years spent as I wished (to a certain extent atleast),and in all these years I have never been moved by a movie or a book.It was this one ,the very famous "The Godfather" by Mario Puzo, that touched my heart with such profound brutality, that I never really came out of it for almost a day.

I feel it as a great previlege to come across such a masterpiece and chose it to read(In fact I saw it the very first month of my College life and thought of reading it someday) in my final year. The greatness of the truth shown in their words, the strategic brilliance, the coolness of those hearts, the way they saw death, the way they lived seeing death every minute they lived, were just too much to bear for an ordinary heart like ours.

At the end of a very long sequence of days(around 15),the life of a man who lived the life of a century just moved me into oblivion after those long hours,I could hear Don Corleone saying"Let your friends underestimate your virtues and your enemies overestimate your faults".The will with which Micheal accepts his fathers legacy even though he never wanted to be like his father, just tells you the respect that a Coleone has for his family.

And it had a fitting climax, with Tessio betraying Micheal, and saying in his death
"Tell Micheal ,it is all business,I have always liked him."

And the very famous R.K.Rowling says in her Harry Potter "It is like the Wand choosing the master".I think the same is true for books after reading this...

Sachin-the Maestro

he Greatest Sportsman I have ever witnessed in my life.I grew as his empire expanded.I was once (still sometimes) mad of the batsman in him.His amazing genius in taking Control of the game, his Demonstration of batting to all the men in the field, were just mind boggling.
But I was not just moved by the Tendulkar on the field, but the man away from the field, the way he speaks to the media. He has always made his bat do the talking when someone doubts his ability or whenever some cynism is built around him.
After 15000 ODI runs,11000 Test runs, with 77 international centuries behind him,Conquering almost every frontier that has eluded him,his answer to the question
"What are you proud of?
from NDTV

The answer from the mastero was,"My Discipline".

What a Night...

A Sachin-Sourav opening stand of 150,a Tendulkar 94 of 81 balls,an Indian batsman coming in at number 7,at his first match at tour, scripting an Indian Victory from nowhere under pressure,a sensational cricket match entertained along with Harsha Bhogle and co....
What else a man requires, who has been in love with cricket ever since he had known himself, when he goes to his friend's house to see that cricket match after much hesitation...
It was a beautiful night with a heart filled with ecstacy and satisfaction ,winessing a tantalisingly close battle fought with all mighty powers. Here it is ,a night that can be compared with the Natwest Final at the same city five years ago...

Why India is still India

We are more concerned about the arrest of Sanjay Dutt than in the pitiful plight of our retires armymen and those innocent men and women those who are affected by the brutal acts of the terrorists and the government.

We show greater importance to a celebrity who fakes charity for fame than to a man who helps the poor to the neighbourhood.

We dont honour our real heros neither do we recogonise them as the one who truly deserve praise and adulation.

We throw garbage into the street, spit in the open places ,try to cheat the government for our benefits, bribe for our comfort but expect the politicians to be honest!

We dicuss the things that can change India but wont come forward to do it ourselves.

We write blogs of what we know and hoping that someday some miracle change this poor old country hesitating to create that miracle...

The Men who made me-II

I can still remember that cover drive as it is happening right infront of my eyes although it might have happened some nine years back on a typical weeknight. That great Innings in the super six match against South Africa at the 99 world cup ,which altered a nightmare of a situation in to a glorious win.Coming from Nowhere,he produced one of the greatest one day innings of all time. And I dont have to say he is,Stephen Rodger Waugh.

The way,he fought against bouncers ,how he mastered his team during tough times is just amazing. And when they lost some important test matches in a row,a message came out of the man and was stuck on the bathroom on one fine morning,

"Today is the first day of our journey to the Invincible"

They made that 15 wins in a row -record right from that day....

He brought it me something that always keeps me going

"Perseverence".

The Men who made Me

At times when you look back at your life and think how would it be if some incident had not been happened or if you hadn't met someone and you realize that very moment had been the defining moment of your life.Believe me everyone has to have something like this in their life. And what this post is about an incident that have influenced my life than anything else...

Pete
sampras...

When I look back now, 8 years ago, when I was studying my ninth or tenth standard ,I could still remember the day ,when I bought that 'Sport star' magazine ,trying to buy the one which had some cricket news ,the shopkeeper gave me the next edition(I bought it thinking it as the previous edition),It had some thing like "The Lion roars back" with the great Pete Sampras behind...

I started reading that amazing piece of work, by Nirmal Shekar, which started with
" The higher You fly ,the smaller you appear to those who cannot fly".

When I was wondering what life is,Sampras gave me a picture of what life is all about beyond money,pride,glory-the urge to challenge oneself and come out on top .Sampras did it winning the U.S. open beating Andre Agassi on paper and practically all his age, time and all the cynicism built around him.

still I could remember

"Sampras at 80% can beat Agassi at 100%"

And I thought -What made a man who had 13 grandslam titles(world record) and staying Six year ends at No:1(World record),Staying record number of weeks at no:1,still wanted that elusive U.S open not to prove to the world but to himself that he is still a fighter.

And that gave me the most beautiful character that I pursue have it me

"Challenge Myself"

Science Vs Religion

Although I dont want to publish this blog, as this would raise a lot of questions to your theories of God, my instinct tells me to publish this piece. Almost all ideas of this blog are taken from Angels and Demons, I think this is worth reading.

I am blogging after a very long time and I am sure that this is worth waiting.

Let me start FROM SCRATCH .Why is the question Does God exists? arises. It is because there are two kinds of people who believe evolution to be happened in two different ways.
1) As per the Big Bang theory and the theories of Darwin (Science)
2) God is the creator.
And what all of us dont understand is the fact

SCIENCE AND RELIGION ARE NOT AT ODDS
SCIENCE IS SIMPLY TOO YOUNG TO UNDERSTAND.

Although the big bang theory may be scientifically proven, the fact remains that, at time zero, everything vanishes and cannot be explained and there is no proof for matter coming out of nothing, which definitely brings the concept of God into the picture.

I just want to bring science to a higher level where science supports the concept of God.

The following are the quotes from 'Angels and Demons 'These texts describes an experiment done by a renowned scientist

"He set out to do something no scientist had ever thought to do. Something that no one has ever had the technology to do .He designed an experiment to prove Genesis was possible."
Genesis is nothing but matter from nothing.

"He created a universe . . . from nothing at all. Better said, he recreated the Big Bang
It was done on a much smaller scale, of course, the process was remarkably simple. He accelerated two ultrathin particle beams in opposite directions around the accelerator tube. The two beams collided head-on at enormous speeds, driving into one another and compressing all their energy into a single pinpoint. He achieved extreme energy densities He was simulating the compressed point of energy from which the universe supposedly sprang .The results shake the very foundation of modern physics. Without warning, inside the accelerator tube, at the highly focused energy, particles of matter began appearing out of nowhere."

"Matter-Blossoming out of nothing. An incredible display of subatomic fireworks, A miniature universe springing to life. He proved not only that matter can be created from nothing, but that the Big Bang and Genesis can be explained simply by accepting the presence of an enormous source of energy."

"God, Buddha, The Force, Yahweh, the singularity, the unicity point-call it whatever you like"

That single enormous source of energy is what we call GOD
Science and religion support the same truth-pure energy is the father of creation.

Can those sophisticated, amazing complex chemical reactions that led to the evolution of the universe be happened without the intervention of a superior power? See the universe and its breath-taking expanse; can that greatness be achieved without the help of another greater source of energy?
Where is GOD?

He is there, where the question came from.........

He is the reasoning, the power, the ability to grow, the mastermind behind every move of the nature and the force which is controlling the universe.
The difference between various individuals is their ability to understand that God and Religion are two different things and they dont have any relationship. One is a source of power and the other is a path laid by the common men towards reaching that power.

The Biggest Question

As I mentioned in my previous blog, there are so many big oppurtunities being created by the so called IT boom. But the question that remain yet to be answered is ,Is this boom helping India or the 'Aam Aadmi' really.I recently studied that nearly 90 lakh houses in Tamil Nadu dont have the basic sanitary facilities. The boom, the bubble ,the oppurtunities are all for the one who could afford to study a well respected Under graduate course....

But ,What is in there for those who study in Government schools and come from villages .They may belong to any of the backward classes and they may be the ones who really need the quotas ,But those seats are being plundered by the rich people in the city.....

Even I find scholarships in the college given to people who dont need them and the really needed people are cheated or misled into an illusion..

Humans Vs Humanity

Sometimes, during the late night hours, as my thoughts go beyond the horizon, I used to wonder what man has done ever since he evolved. May be he can think he is proud of the scientific and technological accomplishments he has made right from the day he has invented the fire, wheel etc. Today, Technology has developed in such a way that the whole world can be destroyed by a single click .Has man proved himself to be the most civilized and cleverest of all creatures in these million years.

The recent album by A.R.Rehman just provoked some thoughts in me regarding poverty alleviation in the world and the very fact that more than 3 million People (half the world’s population) live below poverty line. What has man achieved ever since the day of his evolution? He might have reached the pinnacle of technological advancements and the zenith of scientific developments .But, hasn’t he failed in the very basic thing of showing love to his fellow beings. I always wonder, has man done all those things that he is made to do without showing the following qualities to his fellow beings….

Compassion

Solace

Devotion

Respect

Truth

Understanding

Peace

Tolerance

Kindness

Justice

Harmony

And if you think accomplishment is achieving something that other mortals can’t, then do it with all of the above qualities. The happiest thing that you would ever do in your life is doing something that makes others happy…

Celebrate Humanity, Love Others, Love Yourselves….

Long Live Compassion…..

Indian media doing what it should't be

The people from the media constantly say that the media is exaggurationg and dramatising trivial issues, but the media is continuing to offend us by showing pictures or incidents that we dont want to see.We dont want to see Aish-Abhisek wedding or any other bollywood news for 5 minutes every hour.

Take this news:Subedar Major Bana Singh of the Eighth Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry was the only serving personnel of the Indian defence establishment with a Param Vir Chakra till the Kargil operations.

Do u know what he is doing now?He is denied a loan for a petrol bunk and a liquor shop.He is doing agriculture to manage his family. And is this the credit that the nation give to a man who has got the greatest medal for patriotism in the country.

And Is this not the important news that the media has to bring to notice. We dont want to kisses in news channels. We need you to improve India's status not the opposite.

Life goes on...

Today is the last day in college for our seniors...I saw them getting autographs and other stuffs. It just made me wonder the various mysteries and intricavies that life has for us .Life is such a big thing that we are nearly puppets in its ropes. We all have different aims and goals and the point that one has to go away from others to acheive that goal comes regularly from time to time.

May be these things are taken with maturity and profound mentalaity ,but the truth is we are somehow made to accept what life is about to give us .We all are driven by something that keeps us living even if we face the difficulties.

Why I can't live without Cricket

I woke up on the morning of the days after watching the first innings of the two matches ,standing on the road ,standing in a barber shop for three hours(DD and SET MAX are not available in our college!!!),only to hear that India lost those matches .I was unable to beleive that the rest of the worls cup did not feature our beloved players.

I would never say ,Watching Cricket 9is about patriotism ,passion for sports etc.It is a part of my life ,my day to day activities ,just like brushing ,bathing etc.I could remember every part of my life right from my childhooddays to the tense moments of our board exams with reference to the corresponding cricket matches. The games are one of those things that moulded me into myself.

It is just amazing to think of certain things in life that happens without our knowledge and knowing those things after their happenings.Harsha Bhogle and Ravi Shastri taught me how to talk on stage,Steve Waugh emphasised perseverence in life,Sachin showed how aggression is an integral part of life,Dravid instilled patience in me ,Imran Khan showed how to show empathy over others.

The two knocks of Sachin in Sharjah told me how one man with his will can conquer the world. The Natwest final in Lords authoured by Yuvraj and Kaif showed the powewr of youth.Naseer Hussain and Steve Waugh showed how to be a fighter at tough situations.

Whatever may be the causes of failure of Indian cricketers, it is the failure of the entire cricketing system, the enter nation ,the entire fraternity of fans .The players are the best 11 of one billion people. The best can't deliver when it matters. This is a humiliation ,embarrassment and disgrace to our system and our deficiencies are brought into the spotlight.

After all......
Cricket is not my passion,
It is embedded in my life and nothibg can take it away even by India's early exit from the quadrennial carnival and only these glorious uncertainities in sports keep its spirits alive...

The Eternal Mask...

Sometimes ,when You are alone ,when there is no other thing to disturb you ,your mind begins a search, the search for yourself. We are not ourselves ,almost all of the time.We do things ,because those things are essential or necessary for our success,or to please individuals .We all wear a mask .It is the undescribable ,the most sophisticated ,the eternal ,the most ugly piece of our soul .

We lose ourselves to the worldly happenings ,sometimes we hide love ,sometimes we dont help others though we want to help them .We dont control ourselves most of the time ,and allow the situations to decide to what has to be done.We are burying ourselves to the so called 'Society'.

In the process,we lose our selfhood.'Professionalism','Work Ethics ',whatever you may call it ,it swallows you into its awkward dimensions. The mask is so permanent, that sometimes it makes you believe yourself that you arent. The mask is undoubtedly the biggest curse to mankind.

The Outburst

I was in a Village near Coimbatore some days ago.I was nearly shocked and stunned by the plight of the poor children out there. There was no future for those small kids.It had a school ,just for the sake of having one.I was able to see hopelessness ,fear ,anger ,inability ,disappoinment in the eyes of those pitiable small kids.Is 'Being Child to a poor man 'is a very big crime.
We just boast ourselves to be among the devoloping countries and talk of GDPs and other stuffs. The poor and the villagers dont want these stuff .All they need is a life where there is hope, where there is security, where they can see their children grow with knowledge of the world.I cant see any of these things happening in the near future ,making their lives the biggest Question mark to be answered.

My Inagural Blog

I was just reading the blogs of Mr.Abraham George ,who is working on Poverty alleviation in India.Suddenly ,the thought of creating a blog myself ,where I could express my concern and profound anger over the social unevenness and injustices of the society, came to me.Here it is,the blog of 'The Common Man'......
